Statement on the Passing of Congressman John Lewis

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congresswoman Abby Finkenauer (IA-01) released the following statement on the passing of Congressman John Lewis.

"Congressman John Lewis lived his values and represented the best values of our country every day of his life. Across six decades he showed us the meaning of courage, determination, moral clarity, public service and leadership. Our nation is better — more just, and truer to its founding creed — because of the life and work of John Lewis.  
 
“I’m heartbroken at the news of his passing, and extend my condolences to his family, his constituents, and his staff. His death leaves us with profound sadness but also a promise to keep: to be hopeful, to be optimistic, and to make good trouble."
