Press Release
Rep Finkenauer continues votes to open government and will rally with AFGE this afternoon

WASHINGTON, DC –Representative Abby Finkenauer (IA-1) is continuing her work this week to re-open the federal government. Last night, she voted to fund the Department of Treasury and the Internal Revenue Service to help ensure hardworking American families receive their tax refunds on schedule.

Today, the House will vote on bills to reopen the Agriculture Department, Food and Drug Administration, Transportation Department, and Housing and Urban Development Department. The bills will ensure families do not lose food assistance benefits, restore access to programs that support farmers, and make sure that the Federal Aviation Administration can train and certify air traffic controllers.

“Iowans are tired of having Washington play politics with their lives. The Senate should pass this and the other government funding bills the House sent them so that we can open the government.” said Finkenauer.  “We can and must come together to discuss important issues, but it should never mean that Iowans are worried about whether they can put food on the table because of it.”

This afternoon, Finkenauer will join a rally in Washington, DC with the American Federation of Government Employees and other unions in support of federal workers whose lives have been upended by the government shutdown.
