Finkenauer Announces Federal Grant for the National Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium

WASHINGTON, DC – Congresswoman Abby Finkenauer (IA-01) on Thursday announced a $206,286 grant to the National Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium to support the Dubuque County Historical Society’s efforts in caring for the museum’s historical collections. 

The grant comes from the federal Institute of Museum and Library Services as a part of their Museums for America program, and will allow the museum to establish best practices surrounding acquisition, deaccession, loans, care and usage of its historical collections 

"Understanding our past is fundamental to our future. The National Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium is a fantastic place to learn about the history of Dubuque and the Upper Mississippi River as well as the importance of the river and its ecosystem to Iowa’s story,"Congresswoman Finkenauer said. “This grant will help us preserve our history for generations of Iowans to come." 

The National Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium, a Smithsonian affiliated institution, is the country’s largest museum and aquarium dedicated to the history of the Mississippi River, with collections representing the rich culture of Dubuque and the Mississippi River Valley.
