WASHINGTON, DC – Congresswoman Abby Finkenauer (IA-01) announced a $2.9 million federal grant for road and sewer infrastructure improvements in Marshalltown.

The grant from the Economic Development Administration (EDA) will help fund a $5 million project to reroute truck traffic near an Opportunity Zone that was hit hard by the 2018 Marshalltown tornado. The project will extend Edgewood Street and install sanitary sewer, watermain and retention basins to help with flood control and improve access to Marshalltown’s industrial districts.

The project is expected to create 105 jobs, according to the Economic Development Administration.

"Infrastructure projects like this add to the economic vitality of our cities, while making them safer and more resilient,” Congresswoman Abby Finkenauer said. “I’m especially glad to see this investment into Marshalltown, which is still recovering from the 2018 tornado and now the devastating effects of last month’s derecho. This project will take an important step toward economic recovery and opportunity."

The grant was awarded Wednesday in a ceremony in Marshalltown.

Finkeanuer serves as Vice Chair of House Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee on Highways and Transit, and is Chairwoman of the Rural Development, Agriculture, Trade and Entrepreneurship (RATE) Subcommittee.
